About the business

FJ Bosworth & Sons is a fourth-generation mixed farming business in Essex, between Ongar and Chelmsford. We grow over 300 ha of combinable crops and offer contract farming services including slurry and digestate application. Our 600-sow indoor unit raises progeny that are finished on the same site and on another site in East Anglia. The business also includes food manufacturing (Procter's Sausages), renewables, property, woodland and Countryside Stewardship.

Main responsibilities

Tractor driving
Lead operator for combining, cultivations, drilling, and slurry/digestate work — including umbilical and tanker applications.
Record keeping
Recording details of all work undertaken and responding to tasks set.
Machinery maintenance
Organising machinery works including booking in servicing, assisting with maintenance, and performing in-house servicing and repairs within capabilities.

Who it suits

Well suited to a new entrant or a tractor driver looking for additional variety. Practical experience on farms is welcome but not essential — further training will be provided. We are looking for someone who is passionate about their work, polite, a team player, motivated, willing to listen and learn, enthusiastic, positive and able to work under pressure.

Requirements

A full UK driver's licence is essential. Please do not apply without one.

The following tickets are desirable but not essential — further training will be given:

  • Telehandler
  • Masted Forklift
  • PA1
  • PA2
  • PA4G
  • PA4S

Hours, pay and benefits

30–40 hours per week. £15–£19 / hour. A vehicle is provided for business use only. Start date depends on when the successful candidate can begin.
